Advocating for thoughtful, forward-thinking development in Westport, CT
Thank you to the many thoughtful and articulate residents who've written letters to Planning & Zoning and other Town Officials about concerns over the Hamlet. Here are just a few:
"Where are the 650+/- employees who will service this undertaking going to park? ...
The project will effectively cut off Saugatuck Shores from the rest of town... Imagine if an ambulance needs to get to Norwalk Hospital or a firetruck is called to the scene...The Hamlet is trying to push a square peg into a round hole and I vigorously oppose its development."
"As Westport confronts the dual challenges of growth and affordability, we find ourselves at a crossroads. On one path, we could shape thoughtful, inclusive development that serves the needs of our community. On the other, we risk allowing large-scale projects to reshape our town in ways that prioritize commercial development over much needed affordable housing...."
"The staff report and Monday’s meeting made one thing clear: this application is incomplete and does not comply with the text amendment or multiple town and state requirements.
"...the massing, materiality, and detailing represents an URBAN solution more appropriate for a New England city like South Norwalk, New London, Portsmouth or Portland."
"A development as large and densely packed with restaurants, retail, hotel accommodations and events as this one will generate a disproportionately high number of ambulance and fire responses."
"Our quality of life, health and safety will change dramatically If this project Is approved."
"... the notion that people from "adjacent" towns will take the train to The Hamlet in large numbers is a lovely idea in concept, but totally inconsistent with our common knowledge and experience... "
